Richard de was born on August 15th, 1246 in Berkhampstead Castle, Hertfordshire, England.  Richard de's father was Richard Plantagenet , Earl of Cornwall, HRE and his mother was Joan Valletort.  His paternal grandparents were John I "Lackland" Plantagenet King of England and Isabella Taillefer de Angouleme; his maternal grandparents were Reginald de Valletort and Joan Basset. He had a brother named Walter Plantagenet de.  He was the older of the two children. He had a half-sister named Joan de.  He died at the age of 26 in 1272 in Thonock, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England.  He was buried in Hailes Abbey, Gloucestershire, England.

‌Richard de and Joan were married in a religious ceremony about 1279 in Cornwall, Cornwall, England.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Edmund de, Geoffrey de and Joan de.
