His paternal grandparents were Richard Comyn , Justiciar of Scotland and Hextilda of Tynedale; his maternal grandfather was Robert FitzHugh. He had a brother named Richard. He was the older of the two children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Alexander, Idoine, Margaret and Elizabeth.-
