Richard was born about 1120 in Northallerton & Badenoch, Inverness, Scotland. Richard's father was William Comyn , Constable of Scotland and his mother was Maud Basset. His paternal grandparents were John Comyn and Miss Giffard; his maternal grandparents were Thurston Basset and Thurstine. He was an only child. He died about 1179.General Notes
Between 1144 and 1152, Richard Cumin was granted by King David and his son, Earl Henry, the important lands of Walwick, Thornton, Staincroft and Henshaw in Tynedale on marriage to Hextilda, daughter of Uhtred, Waltheof's son.
