Ronais FitzGilbert de was born in 1064 in Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales.  Ronais FitzGilbert de's father was Richard FitzGilbert 1st Earl de Clare and her mother was Rohese Giffard. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Richard FitzRichard de, Gilbert Fitz Richard de, Robert, Rohese FitzRichard de, Avice de and Avoise de.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
