Maud de was born about 1176 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.  Maud de's father was Richard de Clare , MCS, Earl of Hertford and her mother was Amice FitzRobert Countess of Gloucester.  Her paternal grandparents were Roger de Clare , Earl of Hertford and Maud de St. Hilary; her maternal grandparents were William FitzRobert 2nd Earl of Gloucester and Hawise de Beaumont. She had a brother and a sister, named Gilbert de and Joan de.  She was the oldest of the three children.  She died in 1213.
