Agnes de was born about 1091 in Clare, Suffolk, England.  Agnes de's father was Gilbert Fitz Richard de Clare , Earl Hertford and her mother was Adeliza de Claremont. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Baldwin FitzGilbert de, Richard FitzGilbert de, Gilbert de, Hawise de, Alice de, Margaret de and Rohesia de.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
