William de was born about 1070 in of Glentham & Caenby, Lincolnshire, England.  William de's father was Ralph Sire de Radolphus de Quesnay and his mother was Maud de Waterville. He had three brothers and a sister, named Ralph de, Philip de, Roger de and Sibyl de.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
