Ralph de was born in 1069 in Sussex, England.  Ralph de's father was Ralph Sire de Radolphus de Quesnay and his mother was Maud de Waterville.  His maternal grandfather was William de Waterville. He had three brothers and a sister, named William de, Philip de, Roger de and Sibyl de.  He was the oldest of the five children.
