General Notes

Sir John Carminow was born at Trenowyth Manor according to family data supplied by Carrie Tru pin.  His death was in 1341 according to the revised Visitation pedgree and MacLean, who foll ows that information with the Latin phrase "Writ diem clausit extremum.  The revised Visitati on pedigree contains the phrase Ped fin 14 Edw II #1 which refers to a settlement whereby th e lands named in the document as the marriage protion of Johanna, mother of Sir John and Si r Oliver Carminowe, go to Oliver and Elizabeth his wife and their heirs, in default remainde r to John, Richard and Minanus, brothers of Oliver and in default then to William de Walesbr o and Jane his wife and in default to the right heirs of the said Oliver.  There is a siste r Matilda in the family, who is not named, teh Visitation speculates she was from another mar riage of Roger de Carmynowe, since she is left out of the settlement.The information on Sir John's burial place comes from MacLean's History of Trigg Minor .The Visitation of Cornwall in 1620 states Sir John was summoned to Westminster 17 EdII and ha s Parl. Writ. Ob before 8 Nov 5 Ed. III.  Pipe Office Engolled Escheator's Acc. No. 8.
MacLean also states his will was accepted 20 Jan 1333/4.Please Note:  An alternate pedigree appearing earlier in the 1620 Visitation, and in Polwhele 's History of Cornwall gives John's wife as Ann Maryett.  There are no other sources to subst antiate this and the revised Visitation pedigree states outright that it is erroneous.  Ann m ay be another wife, or a mistake could have been made.
