Walter de was born about 1148 in Lilbourne Castle, Creek, Northamptonshire, England. Walter de's father was Richard de Camville , of Lilbourne and his mother was Millicent de Stanton de Rethel. His paternal grandparents were Gerard de Camville , of Charlton Camvill and Alice de Vere; his maternal grandparents were Gervase Count de Rethel and Elizabeth of Namur. He had two brothers and a sister, named Gerald de, William de and Isabel de. He was the second youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother named Robert.-
