Joan de was born in 1190 in Stoke, Devonshire, England.  Joan de's father was William de Briwere , Lord of Sumburne & Torre and her mother was Beatrice de Vallibus de Vaux.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry de Briwere , of Stoke and Miss Walton; her maternal grandparents were Herbert de Vaux , Sir and Grace. She had four sisters named Marjorie de, Isabel de, Grecia (Grace) de and Alice de.  She was the youngest of the five children. She had a half-brother named Henry.  She died before June 12th, 1233.

‌Joan de and William de were married in a religious ceremony in 1st wife.  They had two daughters named Anastasia de and Ada de.
