Alphonse d'Acre de was born about 1223 in Brienne-le-Chateau, Aube, Champagne, France. Alphonse d'Acre de's father was John (Jean) de Brienne , Byzantine Emperor and his mother was Berenquela Princess of Leon And Castile. His paternal grandparents were Erard II Comte de Brienne and Agnes de Montfaucon; his maternal grandparents were Alfonso IX King of Leon and Berengaria of Castile. He had two brothers named Jean de and Louis of Acre de. He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-sister named Isabella Yolande de. He died on August 25th, 1270 in Tunis, Tunisia, North Africa.General Notes

Alfonso is son of John de Brienne and Berengaria, daughter of Alfonso IX, King of Castile & Leon, according to Burke's Peerage and much of the internet. Of course most of the internet has him born about 1177, with his mother Berengaria born c1198 from a marriage date sourced many times over at 1223. Since John had to leave Acre for Europe to marry Berengaria about 1223, there was no prior daliance as far as I can see. Therefore Alfonso must be born later than 1223. Many people have him father of Guy de Brienne, b. c1202--but the dates don't work. I have found alternative ancestry for Guy.
