Alphonse d'Acre de was born about 1223 in Brienne-le-Chateau, Aube, Champagne, France. His maternal grandparents were Alfonso IX King of Leon and Berengaria of Castile. He had a brother named Louis of Acre de. He was the older of the two children. Alfonso is son of John de Brienne and Berengaria, daughter of Alfonso IX, King of Castile & Leon, according to Burke's Peerage and much of the internet. Of course most of the internet has him born about 1177, with his mother Berengaria born c1198 from a marriage date sourced many times over at 1223. Since John had to leave Acre for Europe to marry Berengaria about 1223, there was no prior daliance as far as I can see. Therefore Alfonso must be born later than 1223. Many people have him father of Guy de Brienne, b. c1202--but the dates don't work. I have found alternative ancestry for Guy.
