Bertha de was born in 1151 in Bramber, Sussex, England. Bertha de's father was William II de Braose , 1st Baron of Abergavenny and her mother was Bertha de Gloucester , Heiress of Brecon. Her paternal grandparents were Philip Baron de Braose , Sir and Aenor de Toteneis; her maternal grandparents were Miles FitzWalter Earl of Hereford and Sybil de Neufmarche. She had a brother and three sisters, named William III 5th Baron de, Matilda (Maud) de, Sybil de and Susan Maud de. She was the third oldest of the five children.-
