Hugh was born about 1214 in Framlingham Castle, Suffolk, England. Hugh's father was Hugh Bigod , 3rd Earl of Norfolk, MCS and his mother was Maud Marshal. His paternal grandparents were Roger Bigod , 2nd Earl of Norfolk, MCS and Ida Plantagenet; his maternal grandparents were William Marshal , 3rd Earl of Pembroke and Isabel de Clare , Countess of Pembroke. He had three brothers and a sister, named Roger, Ralph le, Simon le and Isabella. He was the third oldest of the five children. He had a half-brother named John de. He died in November 1266 in Thetford, Norfolk, England.General Notes
