Thomas was born in 1150 in Headington, Oxfordshire, England. Thomas' father was Thomas Basset , of Headington and his mother was Adeliza (Alice) de Dunstanville. His paternal grandparents were Gilbert Basset , of Wallingford and Edith d' Oyly; his maternal grandfather was Alan de Dunstanville. He had two brothers and a sister, named Gilbert, Alan and Isabella. He was the oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 70 in 1220 in Whitford, Devonshire, England.-
