Simon was born about 1235 in Sapcote, Hinckley, Leicestershire, England. Simon's father was Ralph Basset , of Sapcote, Sir Knight and his mother was Milicent de Chaucombe. His paternal grandfather was Ralph Basset , of Sapcote, Sir Knight; his maternal grandparents were Robert de Chaucombe , Sir and Julian. He was an only child. SIMON BASSET, son and heir. On 28 June 1283 he was summoned to attend the King at Shrewsbury, and on 8 June 1294, he was summoned to attend-the King wherever he might be, by writ directed Simoni Basset.
