Matilda was born about 1170 in Newton, Cheshire, England. Matilda's father was Richard Fitzroger and her mother was Margery De Banastre. Her paternal grandparents were Roger Fitzrichard and Mrs. Roger 1110 Fitzrichard; her maternal grandparents were Thurstan De Banastre and Mrs. Thurstan 1108 De Banaster. She had two sisters named Amuria and Maud. She was the oldest of the three children.-
