Joan was born about 1211 in Of, Skelton, Yorkshire, England. Joan's father was Peter (Piers) BRUS and her mother was Hawise (Helewisa) FITZREINFRIDE (LANCASTER). Her paternal grandparents were Peter (Piers) BRUS and Joan Mrs BRUS; her maternal grandparents were Gilbert FITZREINFRIDE and Hawise LANCASTER BARONESS OF KENDAL. She had two brothers and seven sisters, named Peter, John, Avelina, Isabella, Agnes, Lucy (Lucia), Ladereyne (Laderina), Alice and Margery. She was the fourth oldest of the ten children. She died before October 13th, 1243.-
