RICHARD) EARL OF CHESTER, also VICOMTE D'AVRANCHFS &C., in Normandy, only son and heir, aged 7 years at his father's death. He married, in 1115, Maud, daughter of Stephen, COUNT OF BLOIS, by Adelaide, daughter of WILLIAM 1. He died s.p. legit., 25 November 1120, being drowned, together his wife, her cousin William (the only son and heir apparent of the King), and a vast number of the nobility, by the shipwreck of the "Blanche Nef," off Barfleur.
