Emma de was born about 1218 in Heleigh Castle, Audley, Staffordshire, England.  Emma de's father was Henry de Audley , of Heleigh, Sheriff-Stafford and her mother was Bertrade (Bertred) de Mainwaring.  Her paternal grandparents were Adam de Audley and Emma FitzOrm; her maternal grandparents were Ralph de Mainwaring , of Warmincham, Justice and Amicia le Meschin. She had a brother and a sister, named James de and Alice de.  She was the oldest of the three children.
