James I "The Conqueror" King of was born in Montpellier, Herault, Languedoc, France.  James I "The Conqueror" King of's father was Pedro II King of Aragon and his mother was Maria de Montpellier.  His paternal grandparents were Alfonso II King of Aragon and Sancha of Castile; his maternal grandparents were William VIII Seigneur de Montpellier and Eudoxia Comnena.  He was an only child.  He died on July 27th, 1276 in Valencia, Spain.
