Robert was born in 0820.  Robert's father was Rutpert  III  of Wormsgau and his mother was Waltrada of Orleans.  His paternal grandparents were Rutpert  II of Wormsgau and Theodedrata of Wormsgau.  He was an only child.

He had a biological son named Count Robert  I.
