Duke Gundwald's father was Duke Garibald  I Herzog von Bayern and his mother was Princess Waldrade Lombardy.  His paternal grandparents were Agivald de Agilofinges and Unknown von Burgund; his maternal grandparents were Wacho Konig der Langobarden and Austrigusa von Gepiden. He had three brothers and a sister, named Duke Tassilo  I, Romilde, Theudelinde and Gertrude.
