William Bates 
William was born in 1462 in Ladd, Kent, Eng. William's father was Thomas Bates and his mother was Mary Margaret Caulkins ***. His paternal grandparents were John Bates and Agnes Unknown ***. He had a brother and two sisters, named John, Alice and Agnes. He was the second youngest of the four children.
