Robert was born in 1172 in Winchester, Hampshire, England. Robert's father was Saier De Quincy and his mother was Margaret De Beaumont. His paternal grandparents were Robert De Quincy and Orbillus De Nessius; his maternal grandparents were Robert De Beaumont and Petronilla De Grantmesnil.
