Catherine was born about 1207 in Essex,England.  Catherine's father was Thomas Battell and her mother was Elizabeth Enfield.  Her paternal grandparents were Sir John Battell and Rochford; her maternal grandparents were Richard de Enfield and Nortoft.  She was an only child.
