Ivo was born in 1064 in Grentemesnil, Calvados, France. Ivo's father was Hugh Grentmesnil and his mother was Adeliza Beaumont. His paternal grandparents were Robert Grentmesnil and Hawise Echafour; his maternal grandparents were Yves Beaumont and Adele Gournay. He had two sisters named Agnes and Rohesia. He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-brother named Robert II. He died at the age of 55 in 1119.-
