Joseph was born in 1843 in Indiana. Joseph's father was Joseph Zike and his mother was Emeline Linville. His paternal grandparents were David Zike and Catherine Smith. He had two brothers named John W. and William Addison. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 45 in 1888 in Manilla, Indiana. He was buried in 1888 in Manilla Cemetery, Manilla, Indiana.-
