Clellan J. was born on July 21st, 1888 in Monroe County, Indiana. Clellan J.'s father was John G. Shields and his mother was Martha Clark. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Lindsey Shields and Eliza Jane Whitsell. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Clarence, Joseph, Clara, Gertrude and Mabel M.. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 76 in April 1965 in Monroe County, Indiana. He was buried in Knight Ridge Cemetery, Salt Creek Twp., Monroe Co., Indiana.-
