[2280151.ged]
Mithradates I, to whom (rather than to his son) the epithet Ctistes
(Greek, "founder") seems to belong, was ruler of Cius on the Propontis
(in succession, it is said, to two of his kinsmen, an earlier Mithradates
and Ariobarzanes) from 337 or 336 B.C. till his death in 302 or 301.
Suspected of treachery by Antigonus I, he may have been escaping to the
east with his son when he was killed.
