FERDINAND I `THE GREAT' OF's father was SANCHO (GARCIE) III OF CASTILE and his mother was MUNIA MAYOR (NUNA) DE CASTILE.  His paternal grandparents were GARCIA IV (II) SANCHEZ and JIMENA FERNANDEZ; his maternal grandparents were SANCHO GARCIA DE CASTILE and URRACA SALVADORES.  He was an only child.

They had a son named ALFONSO.
