Jacob was born in 1658 in Kempten, Kaufbeuren, Germany.1   Jacob's father was Mathias Wagenseil and his mother was Jakobine Bachschmied.  His paternal grandparents were Veit Wagenseil and Anna Jakobine Kolmann. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Konrad, Mathias, Michael, Johann, Gotfried, Susanna and Jakobine.  He was the second oldest of the eight children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Veit, Thomas, Apollonia and Maria.  He died at the age of 58 in 1716 in Kempten, Kaufbeuren, Germany.1
