His maternal grandparents were Abram Hunsberger Swartz and Susannah Bergey. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Lloyd Stanley, Clayton Arthur, Leota Lucille, Vinetta Rose, Susannah and Dorothy Marie. He was the third youngest of the seven children.-
