Nest was born about 0870 in Of,Wales.  Nest's father was Rhodri Ap Merfyn and her mother was Angharad Verch Meurig.  Her paternal grandparents were Merfyn Ap Gwriad and Esyllt Verch Cynan; her maternal grandparents were Meurig Ap Dyfnwallon and Unknown. She had nine brothers and a sister, named Anarawd Mawr, Mervyn Mawr, Cadell Mawr, Aeddan, Tudwal, Meurig, Rhodri, Gwriad, Gwyddelig and Angharad.  She was the second youngest of the eleven children.
