James was born about 1422 in Cadzow,Lanarkshire,Scotland.  James' father was Lord James Hamilton Of Cadzow and his mother was Janet Livingston.  His paternal grandparents were Lord John Hamilton Of Cadzow and Jacoba Janet Douglas; his maternal grandparents were Laird Alexander Livingston Of Callendar and Dundas. He had two sisters named Mary and Marjory.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died on November 16th, 1479 in Hamilton,Clydesdale,Larnarkshire,Scotland.1
