David's father was Nathaniel Folsom and his mother was Ai ne chi hoyo (Aiahnichih Ohoyah).  His paternal grandparents were Israel Folsom and Mary Chambers. He had eight brothers and eight sisters, named Israel, Jeremiah, Mckee, Solomon, Adam, Amziah, Edmond, Isaac, Rebecca, Delita Delilah, Rhoda, Lucretia, Polly, Shame, Elizabeth and Emily. He had six half-brothers and a half-sister, named Robert, Samuel, John, Nathaniel, Jr., Willaim, George and Molly.
