Juan's father was Pedro López De Tarifa and his mother was Antonia De Humanes De Molina.  His paternal grandparents were Juán Rodrigo De Tarifa and Catalina Rodrigo; his maternal grandparents were Juán Nieto De Humanes and María López De Alcaraz. He had two sisters named Isabel De and Mayor.
