Josefa Maria Da Purificação's father was Manoel Fernandes Pimenta and her mother was Manoela Dornelles De Bittencourt.  Her paternal grandparents were Antônio Fernandes Pimenta and Joana Franklina Do Amor Divino. She had a brother and two sisters, named Antonio Fernandes, Romana De Jesus Maria and Rita.
