Gomes Mendes' father was Mem Guedes Gedeão and his mother was Sancha Mendes Calvo.  His paternal grandfather was Gueda , O Velho.  He was an only child.

They had a daughter named Marinha Gomes.

They had two sons named Gueda Gomes and Egas Gomes.
