Adélaïde was born in 1105.  Adélaïde's father was Godefroid Ier Le Barbu De Louvain and her mother was Ida De Chigny.  Her paternal grandparents were Henri II De Louvain and Adélaïde De Betuwe; her maternal grandparents were Othon II De Chigny and Adélaïde De Namur. She had a brother named Godefroid II.  She was the older of the two children.  She died at the age of 52 in 1157.

‌Adélaïde and Henry I were married in a religious ceremony on January 29th, 1122.
