Juan was born in 1843 in Sabalu A Saint Jean Le Vieux, Paises Vascos, Pirineos Del Atlantico, Francia. Juan's father was Bernard Caillava and his mother was Catherine Menditeguy. He had seven brothers named Domingo, Juan Bautista, Pedro, Sauveur, Jean Marie, Jean and Pierre. He was the second oldest of the eight children. He died in , Rivera, Uruguay.
Juan and Senora were married in a religious ceremony in , Rivera, Uruguay. They had a daughter named Caillava.
