Maura was born on November 21st, 1900 in Tarariras, Cerro Largo, Uruguay. Maura's father was Abelardo Alfaro and her mother was Micaela Perez. Her paternal grandparents were Alfaro and Alfaro; her maternal grandfather was Perez. She had a brother and a sister, named Miguel and Basilia. She was the second oldest of the three children. She died at the age of 40 in 1940 in Melo, Cerro Largo, Uruguay.
