James I was born on June 19th, 1566 in Edinburgh Castle,Scotland.1 James I's father was Henry STUART and his mother was Mary STUART. His paternal grandparents were Matthew STEWART and Margaret DOUGLAS; his maternal grandparents were James V Stuart and Mary de GUISE . He had a brother and a sister, named John and Elizabeth. He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 58 on March 27th, 1625 in Theobalds Park,Hertfordshire,Herts,England. Elizabeth of England died 24 Mar 1603 and James succeeded her by virtue of his descent from Henry VII of England, through his paternal great-grandmother, Margaret Tudor, Henry VII's daughter. He was proclaimed in London on the day of Elizabeth's death as James I, King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland and similary at the Cross of Edinburgh on 31 March. Under this same style he was anointed and crowned In Westminster Abbey, 28 July 1603.
