Name Prefix:<NPFX> EMPEROR OF BYSANTIUM married four times; yes, he married two different Zoes, with Zautzina first and Karbunopsina the second (his fourth wife). Both are in the ancestor path. The father of Leo VI identity is not certain (and probably his mother did not know that herself) Possibilities: 1) emp. Basil I, 2) emp. Michael III. This is from Sir Ian Moncreiffe, Royal Highness, p. 59. He says that Leo VI was almost certainly NOT the child of Basil I and was much more likely the child of Michael III, the Drunkard. Odd as it may seem, I've seen that same kind of of scription in three other places. I've never seen a complete argument as to why that would be so, but the modern authors are all dumping Basil I in favor of Michael III. I think we have to send it back to Michael III as father of Leo VI. JAMS, Vol. VI, #77, table 12 agrees with Moncreiffe. - Marlyn Lewis
