Hancock was born on May 25th, 1708 in Ditchley Plantation,Northumberland Co,VA. Hancock's father was Hancock Lee and his mother was Sarah Elizabeth Allerton. His paternal grandparents were Richard Henry Lee and Anne Constable. He had two brothers and a sister, named Issac, John and Elizabeth. He was the second oldest of the four children.
