He was baptized Thomas John but was always referred to as John during his
life. His father's will named "John Haccher my eldest sonne" and "John Haccher
my younger sonne." Dr. John Hatcher earned his MD at St. John College,
Cambridge, in 1554 and was became Professor of Physic (medicine) the same
year; from 1579 he was vice-chancellor. He purchased the Careby properties
