Michael was born in 1061. Michael's father was Andronikos Dukas and his mother was Marija , Princess of Bulgaria Vladislav. His paternal grandparents were Ioannis Prince of Dukas and Irini Pegonitissa; his maternal grandfather was Trajan , Prince of Bulgaria Vladislav. He had a sister named Irini. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 27 in 1088.-
