PLAC Will Benjamin Harrison (II) was born September 20, 1645 in Surry County across the rive r from Jamestown where the family had apparently moved. There he continued working the land a s his father had done before him. Like his father, he too entered public service, becomin g a Justice in 1671. He was sent to England As Commissioner for the Colony against Commission er Blair. He later went on to serve in the House of Burgesses, and became an influential mem ber of the powerful King's Council and was also a liberal supporter of the Established Church . He left a legacy of 20 pounds, "to buy ornaments for the chapel" and that "my executors t o provide them as soon as may be after the new chapel is built, and my will is that five acre s of my land be laid out where the old chapel now stands, and that it be helped for that us e forever." He died on January 30, 1712, and was buried in the churchyard at Cabin Point i n Surry County, where the epitaph on his tombstone bears eloquent testimony to his life: "He re lyeth the body of Benjamin Harrison, Esq., Who did justice and loved mercy, and walked hum bly with his God; was always loyal to his Prince and a great benefactor to his country".
