I n Gospatric the Earl, the greatest families of Scotland, Pictland, Northumbria, and England w ere combined. Cospatrick (a.k.a. Gospatric) claimed the right to the Earldom of Northumberlan d through his Mother, AElgitha/Elgiva. After a nasty disagreement with William the Conqueror , he fled north to his cousin's Kingdom in Scotl and taking with him Edgar Atheling(the Saxo n heir), Edgar's mother and sisters, one of which was Margaret, future Queen of Malcolm III a nd later known as Saint Margaret of Scotland.
